“When some parts of the body are weak, other parts of the body will compensate for the deficiency. A dry topic of Anatomy came to life in the class when we examined each others’ body structures and movements. I was surprised to find that my lower back issue was caused by my weak upper body strength and poor balance.”

Shakti’s Elements Grand Opening: A Night of Culture, Jewelry Couture, Healing, Dance & Martial Arts

Our official launch event was held on May 7, 2005 and was a festive night of drumming, dancing, music, martial arts, jewelry-making and wellness, attended by smiling throngs of friends and well-wishers.

The magical night was inaugurated by traditional Sri Lankan drummers and dancers performing a spring ceremony and the ritual lighting of the oil lamp. Shakti’s teachers then led their students in masterful demonstrations of Flamenco, Kathak, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Tai Qi. Master Zi and Mfundishi Tayari Casel capped things off with a surprise treat – a display of Nyoka Mapingha, a form of African martial arts known as snake fighting.

The evening was both a celebration of art, movement and wellness, and an invitation to join us here at Shakti’s Elements to explore physical, mental and spiritual well-being for a happy, balanced life. View our colorful images from the festivities by clicking here.

Mfundishi Tayari Casel Workshop: “A day with my master is like a lifetime with my father”

From May 7 – 8, 2005, our Tai Qi students spent two inspiring days with Mfundishi Tayari Casel, founder and director of Tayari Casel Martial Arts Academy, Inc. Mfundishi Tayari is a master in the arts of Kupigama Ngumi, Shaolin and Tai Chi Chuan, and flew in from Washington D.C. to conduct a two day workshop on all aspects of Tai Qi. Mfundishi Tayari guided our students in the art of life practice and deepened their philosophical understanding of Tai Qi in order to help them take their practice to the next level.   Images from the workshop…
